Welcome Visitors

Patterns are tools for helping identify effective forms of cooperation and social action. Patterns of commoning can help us create a world that is free, fair and alive. The 33 patterns presented here constitute what we call SPHERES OF COMMONING – the various intertwined realms of social behavior that result in a stable, functioning commons.

These patterns derive from the book Free, Fair and Alive: The Insurgent Power of the Commons , by Bollier & Helfrich, and from the Patterns working group at the German Commons Institut .

Together the patterns repesent an open, evolving constellation of behavioral landmarks for understanding commoning. You can contribute to these patterns with your own experiences in commoning, helping to enrich the world of Pattern Languages .
